| La Clinica, Week 1: A clinic in St Louis that serves uninsured and low-income Hispanics. I got to translate this week--it was gratifying. Am helping the social worker with putting the protocol of the prenatal program down on paper. Am seeing the needs of undocumented (i.e., illegal) persons. Am seeing primary care done without a whole lot in the way of resources (not much money; prescription medicines are bought wholesale from manufacturers and sold at cost).

St Louis, Week 1: I take mass transit to La Clinica. People on the street holler at me. Weird.
Testimony: Why it's a God thing that I'm here. Connections... friend in St Louis knew about La Clinica. Told me about La Clinica. Dates worked out; I'm here. Turns out it's a place that focuses on wholistic care--not just medicine, but advocacy and counseling as well. And I get to practice my Spanish in a context where it actually counts. What more could I ask? This is a place where I'd be happy making photocopies (well, not really happy, but willing); by doing menial work like that, I'd free up others to do more important work. |

| First snow; it was pretty, though it got bitter cold--windy.
Will be leaving campus for home in fewer than 24 hours. Exciting! |
